Karen O'Connor of Women’s Health Goulburn North East upon receiving the 2014 Gold SWECO Award for the Ogranisations Category
"I am very privileged this evening to accept this award on behalf of the team of good women from Women’s Health Goulburn North East.
Receiving this award is a great honour. It recognises the important work that we do to improve women’s lives through research, projects and advocacy across the Hume region of Victoria and beyond.
This award particularly recognises our work in assisting financially disadvantaged women via NILS No Interest Loans.
NILS is safe credit and a vital tool for early intervention and financial capacity building in a non-threatening manner.
Across Australia three out of four NILS participants are women and of course both our NILS programs are only for women. One is specifically for women leaving family violence and the other is for women on low income.
Thank you on behalf of the team at Women’s Health in Wangaratta.
And thank you on behalf of the 295 women and their 393 children who have used NILS to purchase fridges, washing machines, furniture, computers, pay for course costs, school excursions, and dental and medical services, including breast prosthesis and cataract operations.
Thank you Letter:
