Leadership in renewable energy

A practical route into responsibility for people, quality and results in renewable energy.

Where to enter

Entry routes include electrical trades, project development, engineering, procurement, sales and grid or community engagement. Choose a target role first, since qualifications for installation differ from commercial project management.

A project that shows leadership

Assist with a supervised project handover documenting site assumptions, equipment approvals, grid milestones, costs and defects.

What to measure

Track completed milestones, safety, rework, energy performance and cash tied up in delayed approvals; contracted capacity is not the same as delivered energy.

Choose your learning

For rooftop solar installation or design, check the current Solar Accreditation Australia arrangements; for other roles compare actual job descriptions.

Check the boundary

The Clean Energy Council transferred installer and designer accreditation to Solar Accreditation Australia in 2024; old course listings may misstate the authority.

Source to check

Relevant Australian regulator or sector guidance. Confirm location, role, eligibility and current rules with the provider or employer.

  1. Read three current vacancies for the role you want. Separate required qualifications from preferred experience.
  2. Ask a supervisor for one small project that fits your authority and time.
  3. Agree a baseline and a safety or quality measure before making a change.
  4. Record your contribution, what the team achieved and what you would change next.
